Just wanted to introduce the latest litter of Guitars that will be heading out in the next couple of days. 3 of these guitars are comissions, and the 4th is the osage orange guitar that I built after the swap meet. The neck on the osage guitar I got from my friend Tim McKnight. It was carved in 1959 and sat un-used for all of this time. I did some more carving on it to better suit my neck style. It is the first maple neck I have used.

from left to right, bottom, osage orange, malaysian ebony, flamed oregon myrtle and hanging ont he wall is a curly cherry.

 

the ebony and myrtle guitars have Lutz tops that I scored from Shane at Highmountain tonewoods. The Malaysian ebony I got from uncle Bob at RCTonewoods. The osage and cherry guitars have englemann spruce tops. These tops came from the same batch that I sold a few of in the swap meet.

 Of course there are a few other guitars hanging around the house. Seems like I make one guitar for me out of every batch I make. I'm gonna have to start selling off a few of these :)

There is actually 5 guitars. One is not pictured as it has become the guitar from hell. Everything that can go wrong has gone wrong with that guitar and some of my experiments on it didnt exactly turn out like I had planned. It looked so bad that I actually put several coats of black lacquer on it to cover it up.

The cherry guitar and the myrtle guitars are both exceptional sounding guitars. I would put up the myrtle guitar against any other guitar I have ever heard or played when comparing tone, volume, and playability. It is the absolute best sounding and playing guitar I have built.

Oh yeah, the one on the wall....

There was some tearout of the top when I routed the channel for the purfling on this guitar. I debated about tossing the top and making another one, but I settled on covering up the boo boo by making the little piece you see. It looks ok to me, but does sort of make the guitar top look like a butt?

Ken, haven't you learned what causes that?  We need to put you on a program.  Abstinence will certainly slow down the production of such litters. 

Otherwise, they are great looking guitars, every one!  Nice work.

Sound Clips of most of my guitars

I know there had been a lot of interest in the Osage Orange guitar that I built, so I thought I would record a little sound clip.  You can find it HERE

This was recorded using a Kodak easy share camera, so the sound wquality might not be that great, but I think you can get an idea od how it sounds and the volume it kicks out.

It is surprising that nobody noticed the laptop sitting next to me with the OLF home page open on it.  I do all of my computing this way, sitting next to the fireplace, with Buffy the wonder dog sitting at my feet. She has become my shadow.

I delivered all of the guitars today and got paid for all of them. Everybody seemed really excited that they got just what they wanted for Christmas. It has been a good Christmas for me!!
