First a disclaimer---

My Photog skills need some serious work so these are not the greatest and because of the past couple of months of being kicked through the goal posts of life this is actually old work that I just got around to finishing for the show, I have two unfinished that where to be my show pieces and one special one that the inlay did not get finished in time on

Anyway here are 3 that I'm taking, there is one more that I just polished and is being broken in by one of my good friends..











This is one of two theme ones I was working on, it's a tribute to 9/11 and has taken me almost two years to get it done. Bear Claw Sitka Top, EIR sides and back, snakewood purfling, cocobolo fingerboard, headstock and bridge, all inlay done by Jimmi Wingert and I did the little flags in the back and end graft. The neck is Mahogony and Bloodwood and it has an I beam passive pickup installed.



This is a Koa body with an old spruce top I found at a local wood dealer, it has really nice deep tone to it, Koa trim, rosewood fingerboard and snakewood rosette.





This is the zircote one that I zapped the top on (it's in the archives here somewhere), I wasn't going to bring it but because of everything else going on I needed something to bring so it's coming patch and all The thing about this one is that it has an Adirondack top and just sounds killer, I had to pry it from my friends hand to bring it to the show. It's my personal guitar (but if someone wants to shell out money for it then it's gone )

Like I said I have one more coming, it's another adirondack cutaway with paua purfling all around the top, Madagascar Rosewood and koa purfling. I'll post some pics when it's back here next week sometime...

Beautiful and emotionally patriotic work Paul. With a handle like yours I was expecting to see a 98 tooth "Sprocket" for a rosette.

You should sell out very early! Ater you do maybe you can come over to my table and help me?

No this is the Flag Guitars first venture out into the big world, I've been holding it close for quite a while now. The nut and saddle are some walrus ivory I got from Lance McCollum that he used on his wild rose guitar.

I'm taking tomorrow off to try and finish two more, hopefully I can get the fanned fret done and bring it but I'm cutting it SOOOOO close this time... I also have a new Dreadnought that has to have the binding installed, the fingerboard cut glued on and the neck carved and set, and then finished...

Those are the two that I *REALLY* want to bring with me....

They are just amazing! Love that flag guitar, as the coco headstock transitions to the coco fretboard, very nicely done. What kind of nut is that?

Are you selling that flag guitar if someone wants it from you? It would be sooooooo hard to part with if it was mine!

Thanks Jeff and all, Tim and I have been talking about building and how builders are super critical of their work, All I see are the flaws, but the flag guitar has drawn alot fo attention so far and players who have seen have gone nuts over it. Plus it plays very nicely and shoulds good, The nut is actually walrus tusk that is naturally stained, the saddle is the same material.

And yeah I'll sell it for a price, it's the one piece that I'm not sure how to price yet. I'll decide the day before the show when I get some input from other builders and friends.

If I sell it though I'm going to make another one...

I think the Flag guitar should be a real showstopper... part of the strategy is to have some aspect of your guitars that will get peoples attention and differentiate you from all of the other great guitars that will be there. This guitar works on several levels, it plays off your brand Patriotic Guitars, it has just the right amount of "Zoot" without being over the top and also appeals to what most people have on their mind in light of our troops that are overseas and the recent events in England.

I especially like the photos on the dark background with the draped flag as the setting. Are you doing a brochure or other type of marketing piece with this photo? When you think of someone like Buck Owens does it not conjure images of him with his red white and blue striped guitar?

Brand identification and association is one of the most important in marketing and the fact that it sounds good will be a bonus to the player who is looking for a guitar that makes a statement...Think of Toby Kieth's "American Soldier" or Alan Jackson's "Where were you"...and Im not particularly a country music person but the identification between an artist's patriotic song helps me to remember them whether or not I was a fan of theirs before hearing their patriotic song. This could also extend to their taste in a guitar...or at a minimum to help you to stand out in the crowd.

All of the guitars look great and Im sure they sound good but Im sure people will remember you because of your patriotic guitar and then may order something different because it was the flag guitar that got their attention.

The flag guitar (and the ziricote too) is beautiful. From a purely marketing standpoint, the flag motif would draw a lot of attention on the charity guitar...

Just food for thought.
