When I pointed out what I thought to be an abnormality in the jointed top, he agreed and had said it may have been a flipped bookmatch ( I suspected, but didn't want to say , in case he wouldn't know what I was talking about).. I was somewhat surprised ....Whether he new this before I walked in , I don't know. The guitar had swapped locations from the shops Sister store. ( I saw a transfer aquisition later). I may have been sitting a while because of the top abnormality ( which even my wife would probably have seen, it is quite evident)

Anyhoo...I walked out very happy and he seemed pleased with the sale...

Hey Bruce , sorry never answered your question, I'm not a salesman...

well, I apologise .. he did know what a bookmatch was, but didnt really look close enough to tell that it was fine ... you can tell by looking at it that the top was joined properly - the grain lines and colour streaks in the lower bout all look dead on .. besides, even flipping it around wont match up the bearclaw lines - you can see the angles are different, plus, they are in different locations - one line in the lower bout is right at the joint, the upper bout one is about 2-3 inches from where the jointed edge would be if it were flipped. Thats just mother nature ...

Lets face it...Martin and others have built an incredible brand even if every guitar isn't perfect.

if you had had the benefit of having all our "knowledgeable" authorities along with you to voice their pronouncements on the instrument the store might have paid you to carry it away to the dump just to save their reputation!!

If more guitars were judged as Doc Watson might judge the quality of an instrument, we'd all be a lot better off.

I think I'm going to have a bunch of branded blind folds made for the next guitar show I attend.
