I'm doing a set up on a Schecter Ultracure electric.

Now I thought that with the Knopfler connection, that Schecter were reasonably good guitars.

the Jack socket was loose, so I took off the strat like rugbyball jack plate.

I couldn't believe what I found.

One of the screws was into the mahogany body wood, but the other screwed into the JOIN between the body & a block of white wood glued into place..... a glue join that was loose & wobbly.

good grief, I'm a "wing it" sort of guy, but this is a $800 guitar!!!

Production line and manufacturing tolerance issue. You will see things like this in many production line instruments all the time.

Another reason why I dislike some factory built guitars. I see a lot like these hanging on the wall of my local guitar store!! Doesn't take long to find the flaws...

Most of Schecter's line is of entry level quality and ends up in the hands of players
who are young or inexperienced so teir quality reflects what the guys at Schecter
think their customer base will understand and accept. It's sad.

Would I let that out of my shop? No....which is the case for the large majority of
builders in the world. It is just a case of poor design and planning as well as a
lack of concern about what the customer deserves.

I am my own worst critic when it comes to things like this. Some things I can "fix" and make it look like it was supposed to be that way. Other things like this I just couldnt let go without some better form of fixing the problem.

I have burned guitars that just have cosmetic problems because I dont ever want anybody to see them.

I'm wondering how the screws even fit through the plate into the guitar? Aren't the screw holes predrilled on the jackplate? If so, how could the jackplate line up in the routed oval and not have the screw go into the proper place? Somebody really must have been asleep at the wheel here.

For me that would read:

Good, cheap, or fast. Pick one.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary there. The more you look, the lower your expectations of most guitars will become. I'd call that about par for an $800 guitar. If it were a $5000 custom shop guitar I might be a bit more disappointed, but still not the least bit shocked.
