One thing I miss from the old software is the ability to both see from the index page and change the title on a reply. Reason is If I had a question to ask a previous replier I could change the title on my reply to "Hey Andy?" or something to clue the previous responder into the fact that I am posting a question.

I know that this is the reason that with this new software, if you PM from the previous post, a quote of that previous post is inserted into your PM but if you PM the previous respondent with your question only you and the respondent know the question and therefore the forthcoming answer, and that question and or answer could be relevant to the forum as a whole or other individuals.

As it is now If I post a question to lets say AndyZ about his post in the topic there is nothing to clue Andy That my post is a question to him and he may not read preceding posts. At least not in a timely manner.

I am not complaining. I just pointing out that this is the way things are now. So we need to read posts we participated in regularly to see if we were asked a question someone wanted the forum as a whole to know about.

You can change the title on a reply (I did on this one).

As far as not being able to see the cascading thread titles, that's probably a wash because on the old forum, I bet many used Active Topics anyway and wouldn't have seen the post with the new subject title. I think most people tend to follow the discussion in threads they've already participated in, unless they get crazy long and off track. And by "many" and "most people," I mean that's the way I did it. :)

I thought about that too, Michael. We can change the title of a reply, but it doesn't show to alert the person you're addressing without being able to view all the posts in all the threads. Guess that's something we'll just live without it.

I don't miss that, because, I never could change the title in the old forum. My system, for some reason, never offered that option. I do miss being able to see when a person responded directly to another post. It helped keep the conversation in context.

I'm not complaining, mind you, the new forum is killer.

Yeah, but cascading threads was the thing at the top of the list that had to go. It was murdering the database. That is a big reason why the old system was so slow.

Sorry...

Hummmm????? not that it matters now but all you should have had to do was highlight the subject line in you new post field and type in what you wanted. pretty much the same as now. It is just that we can no longer see them from the index page [headinwall] Oh well I do have an edit button so I will not complain to loudly :D

I had no subject line in my reply box. That's the point. Don't know why, but I didn't. Others had the same problem. There were several discussions about that.

I do think the balloon cloud that appears when you've been quoted is pretty cool. It makes you aware someone actually read your post!
