The base is a piece of pine around 8" X 12" (easy to pin into) covered with release sheets from double sided adhesive, waxed paper works as well but is less resistant to the water in the fish glue.
Once the rest of the tiles are added and dry, the outside edge is trued to circular with the stew mac rosette jig:

Mike, the meander tiles in this one are Brazilian rosewood and maple, the striated triangles are maple and ebony while the checkered purflings are made up of maple, Brazilian rosewood, Indian rosewood, ebony and bloodwood in various thicknesses.

Your rosette is great looking Dave, very impressive. I'm also working on rosettes now. Trying to decide on a center tile motif. Mosaics can get a little tedious after a while but I'm making some progress, got a few logs made including a mini-meander (5.5 mm square).

Waddy, A classical in the same configuration as #90 (no side inlays though....).
This one is going to be in very dark (almost black) Brazilian Rosewood with a three piece back and purflings matching the outer rosette rings. Bindings will most likely be in curly maple with multiple line side fillets.

Marc, those are looking very nice, as does the classical in your other thread!
