I actually have one of these spindles setting on my desk right now at work. I'm building a dedicated machine for a specific operation and the Jager spindle seemed perfect, is really nice. It has a really nice manual tool change system on it from the back of the spindle, no tools required.
60,000 RPM and nicely balanced also.
They're about 4K for a small spindle with the drive.

It has very minimal runout too...but for that price it ought to! I think it was .003 mm. That's pretty tiny.
Great unit, but can't you get a really nice Columbo for that price?

I think you can get a columbo for that price, probably not with the driver though, I could be wrong. I was looking for a very precise electric spindle in a small package. Not a large multi-HP unit.
The one I have is approx. 1.2" X 6" and about 400 watts

I found the DC variable frequency drive interesting as I normally don't think of DC as having frequency.
I guess they must be using a "chopper" of sorts to give DC pulses to vary the speed.
I would like to convert my Techno-Isel to a frequency drive and get away from the noisy Bosch router.
Weight is an issue as I don't want a 20 lb unit hanging on the Z.

The frequencies are usually in the 300-400 range. I'm not sure what the weight of a 3 hp spindle would be, but I've got a 7.5 hp sitting collecting dust and it's about 20 lbs.

What kind of Techno do you have? How do you like it?

I wish someone would make spindles for mounting in a table as a table router. I guess I could just get a spindle and build one...

They're incredibly quiet, and they kick serious butt. I have a 3 hp HSD on my Techno, and I swear it's no more noisy than a Dremel.

My guess is your dremel is louder.

Yeah, seriously. The spindle on the Fadal is quieter than a Dremel at 10K. If it's going slower than that it's definitely quieter.

Sheldon--This is the Techno. I retrofitted servos a couple years back.
Would a 20 lb. spindle be too much?

I'd ask the people at Techno. A 3 hp Colombo weighs 18 lbs. I bet the quality of cut would increase pretty dramatically.
