Skip over to 1:12 time on the video to see the most useful tool in their shop. I think this was a MarioMoment TM.

I'm thinking scraping bindings....

I know, this isn't prime time scrapers, just a variant with a handle, see what you think.... beehive

This teaching video adds a drop of oil during burnishing, and invites use of gloves to protect your hands. Sure looks simple in this one. (How about a demo guys with that sharpened scraper.... ) idunno

What kind of sharpening machine is this? Way cool, looks expensive, hey, this guy does a demo immediately on Bubinga.

He read my mind.

This is the one you want, great for getting in tight areas for glue squeeze out.

That's a "Lap Sharp" system Bruce. I have one. It works extremely well, but is, as you conjectured, a tad on the pricey side.

For dropping your bindings and purflings level with your sides, don't even consider those handled paint style scrapers. They
are way too aggressive and if you need that kind of material removal power, you'd better rethink your binding installation methods.

After bindings are installed, you have no more than a few thousandths of an inch to remove before they are flush and level with
your side surface. Any more than .005" being needed to be removed means that you needed to a few seconds more to adjust the
bearing on you router to allow the cutter to take the extra material or sent the bindings for one more pass through the sander.

There's so much more control while using a cabinet scraper and pulling a very sharp and efficient burr takes less than ten seconds. Once you've developed your burnishing technique, you'll be familiar with how to roll different depth burrs onto various
scrapers in your shop.

Nothing works for any job like the right tool for that job and shortcuts can cause more damage than they're worth.....and that
damage will cost you more time and trouble.

Kevin Gallagher/Omega Guitars
