o.k. I think my top has a nice ring/sustain going when tapped with a hammer ,, as far as the back goes ... when I hold the braced back by pinching the carved end of the brace closest to the neck , and tap it between the two lower bout braces I get ( what sounds like ) a nice tone then a soft rumbling decay , it seems to be sustaining even longer then the top... is this a good thing ??? is maybe my back too loose ? I am not sure what anyone is looking for ( or listening too) when tapping the back ! any help is appreciated , thanks , Jody
P.S. the back is mahogany and it is thicknessed , lower bout ,at about .103. most of the upper bout is still about .110 .
lots of things are a bit strange about what you wrote.
.103 for the back in the lower bout / .110 in the upper; I gather you are telling us that you are voicing the back by scraping the thickness. .110 thick back is about .010 thicker than most mahogany backs I have done.
Tapping with a hammer I hope you mean a piano hammer and not a carpentry hammer.
