I am about to start my first build, and after researching all I could find on the subjekt "building a guitar" I came across this forum and the people within. and I must say its amazing to read what you guys are writing, sharing, and helping 1another. I am living in Sweden (hate the darn snow haha) and its not often things are shared and its even more seldom seen that people help someone and do it from the heart. I am proud to have come across you all, and hopefull I will get the chance to ask for your help when stuck binding my guitar :-) . a great example of doing more than askt for - I wrote a mail to John at RC, asking for help on what wood to choose for my back and sides, his reply was not only "EIR !!!", he gave me point on this and that and also, reffered me to John at Bluescreekg.... who then ordered the B/S from RC without even asking me to pay, this not truly knowing who I am,! I guess he simply trusted me without further questions, then sent me a mail saying the wood is here, also ordered Michaels SJ plan and had it send to John "Hall" Feels a bit like I went back a 100 years in time, as to when a jar stood on the storetable, saying "take your item, put money in the can" :-) .
I look forward to have you all give me hints and critisism on my soon to be build SJ.

Sincerely Lars Stahl
Sweden.

Welcome Lars and thanks for noticing some of the special folks who make the OLF and guiter building so special.

Tippie (John Hall) and The Zootman (Bob Cefalu-RC Tonewoods) are 2 of the most helpful and influential people in helping me along the road to building guitars. In fact, I was so grateful for their help, I named guitars after them! You'll meet a lot more along the way as you participate on the OLF.

Hopefully, you'll have an opportunity to meet Arnt...one of your fellow Scandanavians who is a very accomplished builder and all around nice guy!

Lars welcome to the OLF! Nice of you to share your experience that you had with who I gather was Bob Cefalu (a.k.a Zootman or Uncle Bob) of RC Tonewoods and John Hall of Bluescreek Guitars. Also good that you stumbled upon these two fine gentlemen.

Hang around, I think you'll enjoy the experience and quality and prompt responses to any of your questions here on the OLF. The Forum Archive is a great place to search for answers and creative ideas so I suspect you'll spend hours surfing there. If you don't find what you are looking for there, just remember all of us were new to this at one point or another so please don't feel inhibited to ask questions or for advice. This forum and the friends I have made has become my "go to place" for information and of course the occassional good laugh.

Nice to see more Europeans here as well.

Welcome Lars!
Im glad your here, you Northern European types always tend to end up making excellent instruments from what Ive seen, perhaps it stems from the ideal of quality over quantity that still pervades certain cultures in your part of tha world I dunno..
Im sure many of the experienced builders would be happy to assist you in your endeavour!
Cheers
Charlie

One more big Welcome, Lars. This is just an outstanding place to learn. You really don't even have to ask very many questions. You can just keep reading the stuff that's posted everyday, and what you learn is astounding. I have had so many questions answered without asking. I, too, am a new builder. Started last year, and finally completed my first guitar, thanks to the folks here at OLF. It's like having someone standing, comfortably, over your shoulder, giving your the tips you need to succeed, but without stifling your work habits. Make sure you search out the archives, and here is a link to the OLF Tutorial Page, which was damaged in the move, but still has very good tutorials in it.

I was there a year ago in Feb for about a week. I had a great time, but wish it was summer. The days were real short.

It's when the gray hair in your ears, becomes longer than the gray hair in your nose that you have to start worrying! gaah [headinwall] [headinwall]
