Hello all,

I'm making another bass guitar now and am considering giving the top a radius. I thought about making the top a section of a sphere, like the top or back of an acoustic. Another thought is to give it a cylindrical radius so that the top tapers of to the sides, but stay straight in the direction of the strings. The reason of the latter is that, if I give this thing a cylindrical radius then I suppose I ought to have the high point coincide with the bridge location. On a bass guitar the bridge sits way at the back which may make that body too thin in the upper bout region, or the neck area.

Perhaps I should also add that I'm going to make a floating bridge on this one.

I tried to find some carved top bass on the web but have come up short. Is this done often?

Thanks for any thoughts/advice on this matter,

Stefan

with the bridg so near the edg then a dome will have the neck join VERY low.

what about slopin away on three sides?

'know, top, bottom & tail sloping & neck join level with the bridge.......

there are a load of layered basses out there with bevel cuts that let you see the lams.....

here'sa few made by my mate skelf on the Jam Session
