I'll be showing off the newest Mayes model at Healdsburg. It is a cross
between a Martin 00 and a Nick lucas with a parlor guitar mixed in.

14" at the lower bout. LS Redwood over Crazy-go-nuts sapele. I call it
the
"Baby J"

I'll prolly bring a carpathian/indian Jumbo Parlor as well, and in wanting
to show versatility I'll be bringing a couple ukes, a couple electric guitars,
and maybe a hollow body acoustic stage guitar too.

some sneak peaks of the baby J before it left for finish (I actually had not
even finished woodworking at this point.. but close) I can't wait to get
this guy back next week!

Oh and I built this guitar in 4 days :)

4 DAYS? You did a real clean job in those 4 days. Did you get any sleep?

I did one in a week once, (7 days) ... but I am not so sure it was that clean.

Nice stuff, I look forward to seeing it in a couple of weeks.

haha.. yeah 4 LONG days. The fastest I've done one is 3 days...but it was
a very basic model. built ukes in one day. Sleep? What is that? Went to
bed last night at 3:30 woke up a 7:30. That is pretty much the norm for
me the last 4 months.

Thanks for the nice compliments.
BTW, who does your finishing?
Guy named Tony Ferguson. 616-842-4114. Very reasonable prices,
extremely reliable, and a all around great guy. Awesome work. He is
better than I ever did on my own..well I take that back I could do as good
as job as him, but the time I put into it was worth WAY more than what I
pay him. He is great. Give him a call, and tell him that Me and Lance sent
ya.

Nice one John! I really like the vintage look of that guy. That Sapele is a knockout punch too!

John my man...how are you finding time to listen to Homestar and Strongbad ("Crazy-go-nuts") if you're building killer guitars in 4 days???? Seriously, have you developed a "just add water" method of lutherie? And if you have, I'd like a bottle of Small Jumbo tablets in assorted woods! Awesome work tho, and good luck at HB...

Larry

John,

Makes me hyperventilate looking at that guitar, it looks so darn good!

All these incredible guitars everyone is building. Makes we wonder what the heck I think am doing here!

He was too embarrased to reveal that he built it with just a jack knife and a chamoise cloth!

Expert work, John!

pic of this guitar as well as a little soprano uke I built from the same
wood, early in finish. The uke has a adirondack top, but will have a
darker loar mandolinish style burst on the top...
