Here is a jig I made after seeing Tony Karol's soundport jig. Since I will need one to cut an end graft as well...I fashioned the jig so that it will double for either task using a different in acrylic template insert.

The jig is made to be used with a router template following guide you can vary the size of the soundport.

Terrence, the acrylic template is 1/4" thick (4" wide and 8-1/2" long and rests on a 1/2" wide ledge).

Looks good Anthony! Clever clamping (T-nuts?). ...might have to borrow that!
That looks like another lovely archtop developing - look forward to hearing it.

Outstanding jig! Do you mind if I copy it? Having replacable templates for end-grafts is priceless in itself, but having the jig do double-duty for soundports is just genius in woodcraft!

Thanks Dave. The ¼”-20 all thread rod is threaded through ½” thick poplar using Home Depot variety ¼” – 10 mm long threaded inserts. The rod is fastened at each end to 1” diameter dowel using small ¼” knurled inserts (from Home Depot) that are CA’d in. I turned down the diameter of the knobs about 1/16” on my drill press and capped them with 1” diameter self stick carpet pads.

T-nuts would work for the side/end threads but I don’t think it would work for the knobs as they are prone to split.

The archtop body was shown for display purposes. I don’t think I will put a soundport in this one as I have a sneaking suspicion that there is a side support about where I would put a soundport. Next one for sure though!! We just might cut a soundport in Rod True’s latest build or maybe JJ’s or one of Alain’s this weekend.

Jim I work under the presumption that any jig posted on the OLF that may be of value to others has no intellectual license and is free to be replicated or modified with or without acknowledgement as you wish. In this instance I still owe you one for some articles you mailed to me.

The design is not all that original. I got the idea to build one from Tony Karol and then went searching the archives for the End Graft Jig that Lance posted a pictures of a couple of years that he received from Guitar Jigs (who I understand are no longer are in business) and modified it from there

That is a cool jig. I just love designs that are flexible and allow for multiple uses. Your pictures have been saved to my hard drive for future use. Thanks for sharing!

Cool jig. I must find some time to come visit your shop (and Tony Karols as well) since we are in the neighborhood. Any planned get togethers coming up?

Cool looking jig. You know if the router doesn't work so well in that, you could always try sand blasting. That should get the job done also.
