Hi,

I'm toying with the idea of implementing oak in some guitar parts, just because i have quite a bit of it available.
i was thinking about making a 3 piece neck with cherry(anyone remember a previous post about this)and oak as a center strip.

Is this just plain stupid?
btw, i know oak is bi*@h to work with..

Some of the great Oscar Schmidt Stella/Galiano guitars were made with Oak Back and sides.

Frank buddy we have seen some posts here about using oak as the back and sides but I don't recall anything about using it for a neck.

My reservations about using oak for a neck would be that it is very heavy.

Not as heavy as you might think... red oak has almost the identical density to hard maple.

I've made an acoustic with oak back & sides.

bends SO easily!!

by a MILE the easiest bent wood I've ever tried.

pores big enough to loose a small child or a reasonable sized dog in.

wasn't keen on it for a neck as it was very grainy and as soon as the chisel dipped under a grain line it split along that line..... Not good!!

I ended up using a mahogany neck instead.
