FANTASTIC first guitar. That's a million times better than my first one. Easily.

Chris that looks amazing, you must be very happy. Redwood/mahogany is a classic combination, should sound like an angel.

I like the rosette particularly, would not have looked so good bookmatched, yes I like that.

I've just started working on a redwood/Cuban mahogany OM, next to Euro, Redwood is my favourite topwood.

Lovely first guitar Chris. Very elegant design and great use of woods.

I look forward to the drunken sound clip. Good luck with the exams.

That is an astounding effort for a first guitar.

That's it- I am taking my first to bits and reharvesting the parts!

Somebody said that redwood/mahog sounded like an angel, that really appealed to me. I have some redwood, now what is the very best mahogany can people recommend?

Thank for your reply, Chris.

I am guilty of acquiring different tonewoods over a couple of years and have neglected mahogany....

Honduran I think is nigh on impossible to import into the UK- although I think Cuban is available SOMEWHERE, need to go and do some research.

Now I know why the chap at the scrapyard was charging me £150 for a 8ft x 2ft x 6" chunk of 100 year old 'hog.

As for the bling, it doesn't matter too much to me- I keep seeing this redwood/hog combo coming up as a great pair and really want to build a guitar made of this one day.

I blame your beautiful guitar for starting a relapse of WAS again....

Wow, that's superb.

My redwood will be multi-piece, as it was from a seriously QS redwood giant loom my principal gave me from work.

Sam, don't forget that due to the CITIES restrictions getting Honduran or Cuban from the US is not now a legal possibility. I'd probably call the usual suspects over here and get a couple of sets of Honduran while it's still at a reasonable price. Luckily I've got enough sets to see me out, both plain (my favourite) or fiddleback. Cuban is no longer a reasonable alternative as the last logs apparently came into the UK in 1928! Dave and I have just ordered some Cuban that was imported in 1908 and is thought to be 150 years old, just don't ask the price!

Sapele or Khaya, though not mahogany, are good alternatives.

Colin

Colin, you've made me proud. I'm glad we're able to offer you something from this side of the pond!

However, that said, I did see a number of redwoods growing in the west of Scotland......

Colin,

I will make some phone calls this week to the UK guy I can trust. I cannot believe the last import of Cuban was 1928, that's astounding. I thought Honduran was the only restriction. Learn something new every day!

That 1908 Cuban is going to be something special [clap] . No, I won't ask the price, it's just not the ettiquette!!
