Hi Frank,
If I had the money I would use Fossilized walrus tusk.
Second choice due to cost would be Bone.

I just used a set of StewMac's Bone pins, and they were really great. I would highly recommend them.

Standard for my guitars is ebony or bone. Then customers can upgrade if they want. Plastic sounds like you are using plastic (IMHO)

Always bone, they are one of the details that I think can make a big difference to a guitar. It seems to make sense, bone nut, bone saddle, bone pins.

I've used ebony for some time now. There so much better than plastic. I like using the older style pins without slots. Bone is very good also.

in repair work i always change out plastic; bone if the client will bear the cost but ebony if it is a cost conscious client. on builds it is either bone or ivory depending on client choice,crazymanmichael38567.440787037

I've got an even gross of ebony and boxwood pins, which I think should do the trick for a while. Quite looking forward to the contrast boxwood can give to a dark bridge. Haven't used bone yet. Any affordable sources besides Grizzly (who, last I checked, don't ship outside the US)?

I've seen brass pins used. Anyone here try them?

I use brass sometimes when a client requests it, but to me can make an instrument a bit too "Punchy".

Ebony or bone is my standard, fossilized Walrus Ivory is my upgrade. Most of my clients choose bone but a few that choose ebony bridges wamt ebony pins wil pearl or abalone dots. I don't notice much responce differance between bone and ebony but quit a bit between ebony/bone and fossilized Walrus Ivory

Interesting Michael, Most of my customers choose Ebony although a few choose Bone. fossilized Walrus Ivory is also an upgrade for me.

Check out Gordon and Betty Orth of Saint Francis, KS. They don't have a web site, but their email address is orth@kans.com. You can tell them I referred you, but that might cause them to raise their price - Harry

I use TUSQ bridge pins. They are a molded ceramic material. They ring when you drop them on a hard surface...more importantly, they all ring at the same pitch. I like the results. I can't say how they sound vs. bone since I've only made 2 guitars and used them on both.
