Hey guys,
I have never used pinned bridges but will do some for my customers.
My question is, what size pins do you get? and taper? how to I determine the hole size for a specific taper?

Hi Peter. I use 3 degree, unslotted pins and a 3 degree reamer from Stew-Mac. The final hole size is determined by reaming, trial fitting, until it fits well so I don't know exactly what the hole size is. I have also noticed that often the pins are not all exactly the same.

Mario taught me to number them so I can return them to the hole that they were fitted to. This means that not all the holes are going to be exactly the same either.

Sorry Peter I should have said that in my first post. I start with 9/64th because that is how I make my bridges and my CNCed ones are 9/64th too. I want the taper to make full contact with the pin all the way through the plate. I end up using the reamer a bit more this way but the fit is better.

I just got some pins from David Warther: http://www.ivorybuyer.com/sales/

I highly recommend them. They are available in 3 or 5 degree taper; slotted or unslotted; bone, ivory (legal), or mammoth ivory; bleached or unbleached; various styles of head; etc. Excellent quality, good prices, great service.

I got 3 degree taper unslotted unbleached bone pins with no inlay. The bone is dense, not porous, and subtly but nicely colored. Exquisitely machined and polished. I also got matching nut blanks and saddle blanks, the latter being extra thick. He had the pins made to my specs and hand selected saddle blanks that met my dimensional requirements - all for a very reasonable price, and a fast turn around time. I'm a very happy customer.
