Announcing the Summer 2008 OLF Swapmeet-palooza

June 2nd – 9th, the OLF will host one of our semi annual swap meets. These are very fun and very popular and this is a great opportunity for everyone to either sell off the stuff in your shop you no longer use, don’t want, or must have been out of your mind to purchase in the first place. And, likewise, these are a great place to buy just the thing you have been looking for, more wood (because afterall… you just can’t have too much wood), tools, books, and other great stuff.

The swap meet will be conducted in special discussion forums that PRE AUTHORIZED sellers will have the ability to post products to. The threads will be unlocked so that discussion can ensue during the sale. We ask that each seller ONLY operate a single discussion and that there is no extraneous threads within this discussion (we will just delete them if they are started). The idea is to keep this as clean as possible so it is easy to find and buy the products you are looking for.

Additionally, we are changing the way the fees work (again). We made it too complex last time, and this time we are going with an inexpensive, flat rate model which should be appropriate for any budget.

Individual Members (non-commercial) $20

Sellers (Sponsor level) $50

Sellers (Promoter or above level) $Free

Sellers (Non OLF sponsors) $100

Each seller must contact Brock or I and be pre paid and pre approved before the launch of the swap meet. If you have something to sell just send Brock or I a PM or email to let me know, and the fee MUST be paid IN ADVANCE via PAY PAL to lance@luthiersforum.com

Brock and I are very excited about this. These are always a lot of fun, and we seem to do a lot of business during these events.

TELL ALL! SPREAD THE WORD! THE MORE PEOPLE THE BETTER!

All right! This is always exciting. Can we start a thread where people can list things they are looking for to give poeple an idea about what to prep? Thanks for doing this, again!

Hello All,

For us 1st timers, how does the swap work i.e. if you are are on the acquisition side of the equation? Join a discussion and come to an agreement with the seller?
.... oh look, another babe in the woods - wonder if he plays poker?

Rick my friend the OLF swap meets of the past have been very fun for all and are widely believed to be huge successes in all respects.

Sellers will set up threads usually displaying pictures of what they are selling and indicating a price. Typically the first one to post in the thread that they will take an item, at the stated price, gets it. Things tend to often go very fast and many OLFers stay glued to our computers during the SM because items and sellers are added all of the time.

Some of the sellers will be sponsors with special offerings and pricing, many will be folks like you and me who have things that they are not going to use or want something else. There is some trading although not much of this and there also can be negotiations over price but again often if you snooze you lose and someone will just offer the asking price.

I think that you will have a great time and it's also a good idea to have a nice comfy sofa during and after the event, many of us have needed it in the past...... laughing6-hehe

Rick,
Hesh pretty much nailed it. A word to the wise though. If they allow everyone to look over the threads before the official star of the swap, get a good look, and log in early before the the official start time. I know last time I tried to log in for about 45 minutes after the start of the swap, but couldn't. When I finally got in there was a lot of posts claiming goodies. I suspect there were a bunch of people setting in front of their computers going, open, open, open open.....

All you have to do around here is say the words swap meet, and leave for the day and it just gets ginormous response.

Oh, ginormous, that is a term I picked up today hauling drums, guitars and kids to Relay for Life Performance a local American Cancer Society Event. They sounded great.

Giganitc plus Enormous equals Ginormous..... I predict this Swappalooza is a Ginormous Event too. Cheers to the OLF fur-ever!

Hesh and Rich,

Thanks for shedding some light for the neophytes. Recommend any pre-game warm-up exercises to get ready for the keyboard shredding?

Some folks have been asking why they cant get in the swapmeet forum as its password protected.
Right now just the folks that will be selling have the password so they can get in and get set up.
I will remove the password protection on opening day ;)

Then you can all have at it!

Lance,
It might be pretty ruff for the folks with less than lightning fast internet connections to have a chance to look around at all the tables before figuring out what they want to try to buy. We load those threads with pictures and they get pretty long, not to mention the speed may slow down a bit if everyone is trying to look at all the tables right at opening. I think opening it up for everyone to look a day or two early worked pretty good last time, and seemed everyone was pretty happy.

Hi Lance,

You have made it way too simple, so of course my brain immediately jumps to the next level of complexity. What do these terms mean?

============================
Individual Members (non-commercial) $20

Sellers (Sponsor level) $50

Sellers (Promoter or above level) $Free

Sellers (Non OLF sponsors) $100
============================

OK, I know I'm not a sponsor or promoter. I'm just a guy with more wood than sense, and would love to sell a few sets so I can buy a few more sets. (I told you I was short on sense.) I know I must be either the first category, or the last category. Is a "seller" someone who sells stuff to luthiers on an ongoing (full or part time business) basis?

Thanks,

Dennis

I'm in, where do I send my $20 bucks? bliss

laughing6-hehe These things are worth it just to rotate stock. I'm looking for stuff with more than three layers of dust this time....
