Here's my latest electric. I found a great piece of bubinga at Woodcraft earlier this year. Perfectly quartered, interesting grain, no runout, etc.. Anyway, I used some for the electric top, and resawed some for a steel string.

Also has a swamp ash body, peruvian walnut and curly maple neck, rosewood FB, walnut binding, maple purfling. DiMarzio PAF bridge pup, and a hand wound DelToro soapbar in the neck, by Brian Deckebach. One volume, two tones. I'm really happy with the feel and sound of this fella.

Sweet looking axe there Mike. I really like the "naked" fretboard and the way your maple neck lamination
runs into the veneer on the back of the headstock. [clap] [clap] [clap]

WOW, Mike...that looks gorgeous! That Bubinga really looks fantastic as do all of the other fine little details. Your work is sure to inspire others as it does me!

Wow wow7-eyes , That is a real beauty Mike. You should be really proud of that one! You are making some beautiful guitars. Thanks for sharing. Did your students finish all their guitars this semester?

I am a big fan of the naked fretboard. I think it looks really classy. The bindings and purfling looks amazing. A great guitar. [clap] [clap] [clap]

I have a question. I heard swamp ash doesnt always take stain very well or if at all it is really hard to get an consistent color. I am working with swamp ash on my first, and I was wondering how you got your stain to come out so well. Any tips? Did you just tint that lacquer?

Thanks again, guys.

Tracy, let's just say I didn't have the same completion rate as Mr. O'Brien. ;) There were a few that finished though, and did a wonderful job.

Rob, for the swamp ash (and the bubinga), I pore-filled with epoxy, and sanded back to bare wood. Then I sealed everything with a really light coat of shellac, about a 1lb. cut. I do the coloring with shellac as well, adding transtint dyes to a 1lb. cut, or even thinner. I spray it on very lightly, making several "laps" until I have the look I want. Clear coats of 2 part urethane over that.

Anthony, be my guest!

Thanks again

What a killer electric. If that first picture is accurate, I love that color. Beautiful! [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap]
