Lance,

I thought we were going to allow everyone a day to load pictures and look around before the start :?

I will go back and load smaller preview pictures if there is no preview. This will be tuff to balance good pictures and small size for dial up users.

Also since this is starting on a work day, instead of weekend. A definate start time would help people who will may have to log on from work.

while some may be disappointed, I am actually happy you are starting the event during my work hours..which means I will have more $ left in my account (yeah, I have a definite weakness for beautiful woods)...no option for me as I'm an in the field carpenter without a laptop or wireless connection....hell, I'm already on the jobsite by the 8am (eastern time I assume) start time!

Quote, Lance..."After everyone that has signed up to sell is in and set up, we will remove the password protection and lock down the swapmeet forum (NO POSTS) then that will let everyone in to look around real good.
Then at a preset time yet to be announced we will UNLOCK it and let the mayhem begin!"

Lance...You did in fact agree to open up the site in advance for a look around...what happened!?

Hi JJ
What I said was "After everyone that has signed up to sell is in and set up we will remove the password protection......"

Everyone is not set yet.

Lance,
I mis-understood when you posted this,
Quote:
Hi George!
Only sellers. We will open the door to the swap forum on the June 1.

I will change all my pictures to thumbnails linked to larger pictures. That should help the guys with slower connections have a fair chance to see what is available, closer to what someone with a faster connection will be able to do. I will change the pics back to larger after the first day, so people don't have to keep clicking on thumbnails.

Any chance we can firm up a start time so at least the folks at work can try to arrange a few minutes when the doors open? Should the people who have been posting and have been able to see what is available wait for some period before they start claiming items(people with tables are at a real advantage)?

Rich

So once everyone is set up today you will remove the password and allow read-only access?
Thanks,
George

Thats the idea, I can lock it down at any time, but we have some folks have have posted nothing yet, so I dont want to lock them out.
Worse case is we just open the doors all at once.

Lance...simple questions...

1) Will we have a chance to look around before sales are allowed?

2) If the answer to #1 is yes, then when will the "read only" period begin?...and when will it end?

OOPS...just saw your post Lance. If I were a betting man, my money would be on "worst case" unless you delay the opening!

Realistically, we all want this thing to be the best for sellers and forum members. IMO, I would rather delay the "open for sale" status by allowing that which all of us anticipated...the chance to browse first. Otherwise there will be many disappointed customers. What's the hurry...why not do it the right way...the way it was originally planned?

Lance don't you think some have signed up as sellers just to get a password, to get the chance to look around... and aren't planing on selling anything.

that is a very good point Bob...

as a note, I am a moderator at a forum not in any way associated with lutherie...I mention this because its almost second nature for me to use the ability to view who is online and what they are doing...did that yesterday and noticed a guest viewing the swap thread, and your point just made seems to fit nicely with that theory...very nicely...like somebody shared a password so a friend could look in....

as previously noted I am actually glad of the timing (no joke at all) for financial reasons, but I'm sure others are not...and considering the nature of many jobs I think a lot of people are going to be excluded, as if they get caught participating it might cost them a reprimand or even their job...

just my 2¢

Lance,

Is there to be an 'In thread only' buy policy negating all claims via PM? We had this in place last time to maintain clarity and remove any questions over who may have claimed what when. It worked well and prevented any favoritism, perceived or otherwise, from occurring.

Also, as it will be 10am on the 2nd in Australia around 12 hours before most parts of the USA, does this mean us Aussies can have a zoot picnic and stuff ourselves with all the good stuff before you guys get a look in??

Cheers

Kim

Lance,
After you lock it down, there will be no new posts. If we are still able to edit our posts, we can add to them (really there is no need to have more than one post, at least to show "goodies"). Maybe you can get everyone to post up a Topic and they can just edit and add to it while people are looking around, then after the swap starts the whole thing is unlocked again anyhow. No need to stop people from looking around, if that is the case.

I am swapping back from thumbnails in case you open it up in time for a preview. I will check back and if it isn't opened before I am about ready for bed I will switch it back to thumbs.

Rich

Woops, looks like it is locked now, and I can't edit [headinwall]

You can see Lance's big Swapalooza banner just above the general discussion topics. Click on the the link and it will get you to the area where everyone has posted. If I am doing this correctly this should get you directly to the area-http://www.luthiersforum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=10121

SELLER HERE FOR THE SWAP MEET

I'm locked out.

I guess that means I can take my pictures of all this Claro Walnut and go to bed, until daylight.

Then I'm kicking the tires and lighting the fires!

Let's have a swap meet. Thanks Lance and Brock, these things are great.

Anyone have an over abundance of cam clamps and want to sell some on the swapalooza - I'd be interested!
