does anyone have a technique for sharpening router bits? at $20.00-$30>00 a pop it seems like a neccesity , thanks Jody

If you don't need a bearing on it, my carbide mills cost me a lot less than most people are paying for HSS router bits and they essentially last forever cutting wood. Sort of a problem avoidance strategy, I suppose, but you can get a 1/2" 2 or 4-flute carbide end mill for under $20. It's crazy what the same cutters for for as 'spiral router bits'. If it's got a bearing on it then I've got nothing for ya unless you're fast enough to use the shank without burning...

Thanks , it seems like a round diamond file ( and magnifying glasses)would work for round over bits too ... ! jody

I use carbide end mills in my pin router - they give amazingly clean results. Love 'em!

I bought a diamond sharpening wheel from a guy at the big wood shows who sells resharpened drill bits from the aircraft industry - those bits are amazing as well, and fairly priced. The wheel was 20 bucks I think ...

Anyway, the wheel goes in my dremel, and I have only used is a couple times, but it did a great job .. It saved the little 3/8 top bearing bit from SM for template routing from the trash this way. It had seen way too many PU routes, and was really dull .. no more.
