have only recently been told of the demise of the pc 310!! it no longer is in pc's product range.

if you have been thinking of getting one try to find some old stock as it seems there will be no more.

makes me even happier to have my five on the shelf.

There are some factory rebuilds out there. You have to look. What a great tool...sorry to see it go. I have two, probably should buy another.

That's very disturbing. How on earth can they discontinue such a staple professional tool for so long? I only have two, but they're pretty old and I've already replaced the bearings on both. One is an ancient Rockwell 310 from before Delta/Porter Cable took them over, yet all the parts are completely interchangeable with the modern ones.

Are you sure this is true? Where did you hear it? If it is, I'm going to have to buy up a few more.

It's not listed on their website anymore, either. I wonder if this is why there have been great sales on these over the last few months from some big suppliers. I'm gonna go grab another one or two tomorrow if I can find them.

It is true. Bishop Cochran (who makes the GREAT laminate trimmer and dremel bases) e-mailed me to tell me that the PC 310 has been discontinued and, if I needed any get them before the remaining stock on hand is old out. So, I would suggest to anyone that if they want one get it now!

When I saw the topic, I thought your 310 had died. What a relief that they have merely killed the whole model!

Any chance that they are going to replace it with a basically same machine that has a different model number?

I called my local tool supplier today to ask just that, and he said it was unlikely. B&D apparently bought them a few years ago, and in his opinion they seem to be killing most of the porter cable stuff and putting more of their products in the Dewalt line. He said it looked like they're really cutting it out for good without plans to bring it back under a new model or name.

I guess I'll just have to figure out what to do in 50 or 60 years when mine actually wear out.

This is pertinent to nothing, but back when the buy out of PC by B&D was announced, I thought to myself, "There goes a good brand down the tubes." B&D cheapens everything they touch. They even ruined the small appliances of the companies they bought. How do you screw up a toaster? Now when you go to the service stores in larger cities, they are all B&D and DeWalt, and PC stuff is in the back room, or you have to ask for it.

Wow..what a bummer. I am so glad I got one last summer when someone here on the OLF flagged the special Grizzly was having on them.

It is tempting to write B&D -- though I doubt it would have much impact.
