Suggestions on how we can help?

I read about this at the AGF, This is a repost that Howard Emerson made.

Hi all,
Got an email from my good friend and student, Tom Blackburn, asking if I'd heard anything from David Flammang because his county in Greene, Iowa, was declared a distaster area, so I called and left a message.

Last night around 9 pm, David called and the news was not good.

He got over 4 & 1/2 feet of water in his shop, so it is, in practical terms, unihabitable. His home, on the other hand, is on a hill and was spared entirely.

The walls are filling with mold, as is the wood floor he built over the concrete floor. This is an old gas station that he rents.

David knew the water was coming, but not that much, as the last flood several years back, which was considered a '100 year flood' had the water reaching the doorway...............This one made the last one look like drizzle.

He saved all his instruments, his wood and small tools, but his large machinery was all submerged and he's been feverishly cleaning, polishing, drying and just waiting to make sure it's safe to turn them on at some point. It is just not a safe thing to working in the shop in the condition it's in.

His 3 vehicles all got trashed.

I know he'd like to build a shop on his home property at some point, but right now he's effectively out of business while he sorts things out.

His mental state is actually pretty good, and his faith runs very deep, so he counts his blessings and he has his priorities straight.

He had no flood insurance, because he was not on a flood plain, and after the last flood nobody ever considered that it would be needed. They have applied for disaster relief, etc, but the future is uncertain.

I would like to help him any way I can, and I know there are a lot of people on this forum who are fans of David's work, so please pass this information around and lets see what can be done to help.

Best regards,
Howard Emerson

I know David is not an OLF member, BUT he is a fellow guitar builder. If we can help, lets try!

We are open to suggestions!

Thanks
Lance

If someone wants to start/administer a fund down there (in the US), I would gladly make a donation.

I only heard/saw this on the local news last night .. downtown Cedar Rapids was unreal ....

Lance--

I would be more than happy to contribute also -- let us know if there can be some sort of an OLF fund. Iowa is being clobbered pretty hard right now.
