John: What is the benefit of spreading the lower tonebars so far apart? Mnie are usually 1.5" apart and yours look to be much wider.

this is an adirondack top. This is alot stiffer than sitka or engleman. It also allows for more top flex. I like to let as much of the top move as I can.

Pretty fair piece of work, John. How are your eyes after all that inlay? Wish you would give us some details about inlaying pickguards, like how thick is the pearl stock you start with, and how do you polish the face? I assume that it is inlaid from the back, no? A real sweet job on the whole guitar.

I will admit the pickguard I got from Dave nichols as he is alot better at that than I am . The inlay is not through the pickguard as he was teaching me how.
The celuloid is cut with a die grinder and it is done at a lower speed. The peark is thinner than the fingerboard and brdige stock. The pickguard is .035. It is polished on a buffing wheel.
With my schedule I did about $75% of the pearl. I couldn't do it all in the time I alloted. Once I started building it I went over the top. I didn't plan on the pickguard until Dave offered to do one. So I took him up on it
The side of the neck and body are also inlaid with .043 pearl. I guess this is as close to a D50 custom as you can get. I use the magna visor and Bi Focals LOL. My inlay tools got alot of work. I use a up cut carbide endmill 1/32.
The pearl is Paua lots of it.
Thanks again for all the input.
john

Wow, John. Great stuff. Now I know I've got to make that trip up to see you soon as I can. Like Tim, I'm interested in how the brace spacing affects the response.

I got your goods in perfect shape. I almost take your fine workmanship for granted, but not quite. Thanks again for accomodating my schedule on the shipping.

To all , I am humbled by all the comments. I love to build. This is one that is over the top and I will debute this a CF MArtin tomorrow at the UMGF get together.
I am anxious to see what acceptance it will get there.
Thanks again
John Hall

needs more abalone...

Congratulations

Very pretty John...nicely done. I didnt see the back is it EIR?

The only thing that would have been more over the top would have been if it was BRW to match that Adirondack.

Im sure it will be a headturner at the UMGF...
