Hi folks. I'm looking for some new guitar stands to use for shows. I prefer the a-frame type and have my eye on the K&M Heli Multi-Purpose ones, but I thought I'd get the benefit of a broader point of view. The thing I noticed about many A-frame stands is they allow the guitar to lean too far back. At any rate, I like the K&M's and I like some of the wooden ones I've seen at shows, although it seems the wood would be heavy to ship ahead.

Any thoughts? Any preferences.

By the way, I have some nice ones with the arms around the neck but I'm looking for something a little more subtle.

I had some easel type stands for healdsburg, and they were a little wobbly... they looked good, but I was always a little worried someone would bump into the table and send everything sprawling...

I used the Hercules stands in Miami. They are more sturdy, but a lot more obtrusive.

The jury is still out for me.

Gerald, I used a $15 Proline stand from Guitar Center at the GAL convention. Very stable, well padded, and unobtrusive. It's very lightweight and packs down very small also.

I use the K&M stands, not sure if its the Heli though, its the french horn/guitar stand. I also mod them by chopping the plastic piece on the bottom that holds the A open at a certain distance, and add in a piece of wood to make it wider. This makes the stand more stable than it already is, and the guitars sit lower, thus lowering the overall centre of gravity. I first saw Michael Greenfield using them.

Yep .. its the 17570 Heli I am using/modding. Price is about the same as here in Canada.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Sorry I am late in thanking you for your comments. If anyone else has any thoughts I'd love to hear them! Tony, It sounds like the Helis might work but I might need to do modifications.

I use the On Stage Pro flip-it A frame. I see that they are available again. When I bought a bunch a few years ago, they had stopped making them. The upper arm gives a lot of extra protection, and most people can't figure out how to take the guitar out of the stand. They do not pack down as well as others, tho.
