I know we are all great fans of the forum. Its a great community interacting through a well thought out and easy to use interface. Something I thought would be a great addition would be some categorized photo galleries. I'm not sure that the forum software would support it, perhaps we could set up a public account on a free photo service and access it through the forum.

When stumped for design ideas, wouldn't it be great to browse through galleries that were just bridges, rosettes, end grafts, or headstocks? There have been threads along these lines and they always seem to generate interest (and photos). But I think that something more permanent, akin to the tutorials section, would be excellent. Regular threads could probably work, but wouldn't be ideal.

I don't know if the technology is accessible, but I think that galleries of photos with the contributor and maybe a brief description would be great.

I see that a lot of people have looked at this thread, but no one has commented. I don't know if it's doable from the forum software side of things, but it's a really good idea, and I'm sure it would get a lot of use.

I agree, this is a really good idea. The OLF has had some truly amazing guitars displayed over the years, some great headstock designs, rosettes, butt inlays, binding combos, arm rest and bridges etc. What a truly handy thing it would be to be able to quickly access them by category.

Like Allen, I also see some issues, not the least of which would be finding someone who felt more like compile all this stuff rather than actually build guitars, it would be great though 8-)

Cheers

Kim

Thanks for the reminder, Allen. I actually meant to comment that I had also had this very idea. Like others, I don't know how do-able it would be or how much work would be involved, but I come here for ideas and would get loads of use out of it.

One I find myself looking for: different wood/binding/purfling combinations. I'd use that one a lot.

Currently, I just download the images when I find something that really catches my eye, but an online resourse would be extremely useful.

Yeah I was one of the lurkers here who didn't comment.

Although I can see the value in this idea too I also know some history here on the OLF concerning the Luthier's Showcase. The Luthier's Showcase would have been much like Gabe's good idea but there was one problem. In 4 years it has not happened even though there was support for it.

So my mind immediately went to the reality of the situation here and that seems to be that Lance and Brock have an understandable limited amount of bandwidth which tells me that with the OLF bigger than ever and more complex I doubt that they would want to take this on. I am guessing but I suspect that our hosts have very full plates. I also know that it has not happened yet here even though it was, or something like this was discussed prior.

It is a good idea though! [:Y:] [clap] [clap] [clap]

For something simple and low maintenance I'd post a thread "Show us your End Grafts or Rosettes or Headstocks or whatever"

Once people have contributed ask Lance or Brock to move it into the Tutorial section and make it "Sticky"

Takes very little work to set up and people can contribute to it on an ongoing basis.

Hmm. Good Idea methinks.

Bob

Good idea, Bob. If we can just keep it an open-ended "stcky" like that, people culd continue to update it with new pics. And it would be minimal work for our hosts.

Lance, Brock, what do you guys think?

I certainly like the idea, and its one that has come up before. This would dove tail in nicely with our
idea of having a gallery of guitars made exclusively from OLF Guitar plans.
We can add it to our "to-do" list for the OLF. :)
In the mean time, sure a dedicated post would be great, so long as we kept it to just the posts with images and not
loaded with hundreds of responses. That way the thread would stay focused.
