Ok... I think I'm wise enough to know that the burl used in this rosette shown did not grow in this perfect circular form.

How is the wood cut to give the appearance of the circle of differing colors?

I don't see any seams or lines.

Thanks

Its a segmented rosette. Look at the bass side near the bridge and you'll see a pretty obvious seam. Its a series of bookmatched tiles.

This link will get you close to where you want to go...

Don't ask me I messed mine up I used a circle cutter and tried to chisel out the channel was nearly there on my 1st try but the rosette was thin veneer and started to break up, then tried to widen the channel and use different woods and this is where it started to go pear shaped and was even worse when I used supergle to glue it in without sealing the top. I'm now thinking of reversing the sound board and using the reverse, problem is the soundhole has been cut. Guess i could paint it!

If you have a look in the Tutorial section of the forum there is a post with links to a heap of tutorials.

There is a series of three excellent and very detailed articles by Mike Collins on how he constructs this style of rosette.

Cheers

Bob
