I just spoke with SM & LMI, neither can match unbleached bridgepins to a nut/saddle set. The unbleached bone color/slight mottling is what I'm after. Getting nuts and saddles to match isn't an issue. It's the matching unbleached bone bridgepins that aren't available.

Can someone point me to a supplier who can match & sell me a set or two? ~ TIA. I'd like em by late July

That is going to be a buy multi sets and hand pick situation. Even in a single piece of bone you not going to have perfect or set apperance matches as unbleched bone will vary in hue with in a few fractions of an inch.

Just incase you can't find them anywhere, I think this is what you are looking for. I might have a 2-3 sets, 1 for sure. Unbleached bone, plain style.

I lknow & like the variation. That's fine. I just don't want a homogenous bleached white set of pins to mess the up the organic mottleing of the saddle and nut.

ALEX: Yes I know LMI has unbleached nuts & saddles. I spoke with them.

You can also take bleached bone and soak in tea overnight. I do this all the time and it works very well.

Terry buddy in addition to staining them Louis F. here on the OLF can make you a set or 20 I believe and his work is superb. You will also have the choice of 3 or 5 degree, unslotted or crappy slotted ones....

Terry, you can buy excellent quality unbleached bone pins and nut/saddle blanks from David Warther. This bone, however, is very subtly colored, creamy, almost white, even though it's unbleached. Subtle mottling. It's nice stuff, but not nearly as yellow as unbleached bone I've gotten from Stewmac. It is good and dense, though. Seems to be consistent in density, and not nearly as porous as some other bone I've seen. http://www.ivorybuyer.com/ (Go to the contact page and email David.) You can get pins in a variety of styles, different tapers, and slotted or unslotted. Good customer service.

Thanks guys. Jimmy, I tried the tea trick some time back, it adds color, but is missing depth, if I remember correctly. Worth a try again... maybe some Darjeeling....

Anyone tried the Grizzly camel bone pins outa curiosity?

I bought fossil mammoth ivory from David a couple years ago when I wasn't even dreaming about building guitars, but i wanted a cool saddle for my guitar

I have soaked several sets in coffee to get a beautiful patina not quit but almost FWI look. Fresh ground beans stains much better than caned coffee.

The fresh bean idea makes sense. I had tried tea one time for fun. It certainly begs experimentation. I will do so.
