As I'm getting close to closing my first box. I would like to get some tools that are needed in next steps.

Here are the things I'm thinking of and any honestly opinions or better subsitudes would be greatly appreciated. Trying to save on shipping so I would like to puchase not only for this build but for my next scractch build.

-Reamer from StewMac I don't know if I need 3 and 5 degrees or more.
-Gauged saws from StewMac
-LMII Bearing set
-Shaft adaptor from Stewmac

I need your recommendations as to which and from where:

-Nut files from Stewmac or Allied
-filler gauge
-Circle or/and Rosette cutter

Thanks, David

btw, I read the archives. I just would like fresh and updated info on some of these.

I had to look up the gauged saws. Looks to me like a solution in search of a problem. I just use a knife-edge needle file to start each slot.

Re nut files: you don't need one for every gauge. That knife edge needle file will do the two plain strings just fine. Others can cut a bigger slot if you massage them a bit while filing.

Reamer: you don't need both unless you are using both pin tapers.

Sylvan made one of his circle cutters for me last fall. Using it with my PC 310 has made the process so simple. It might be my nicest tool.

Do you mean a gramil? or purfling cutter.
for cutting the purfling channel.

I agree it really helps to mark out the binding channel before routing.

Pilgrims prodjects are the cheapest i have found and they ship quite promptly

Joel.

Here's some pics of the one I built, loosely based on Sylvan and Tony's. I used acrylic, but I think it was Todd who's had this material shatter on him while working it. He has suggested Lexan or Delring, if I recall.
