Well, I managed to make a few test cuts this past weekend of my logo and of a small section of a banjo inlay for a good friend of mine.
They came out pretty accurate, and I'm psyched about moving forward to cutting something real.

Sorry for the poor pictures.

Don

That looks great Don! What size cutter did you use? What spindle?

The banjo inlay was done with a 1/32" cutter, and the logo was done with an .023" cutter.
I used my mini-spindle from Wolfgang Engineering. That little thing does wonders for its size. It doesn't have anywhere near the power of a real router or spindle, but for stuff like this it really shines. This was only in mdf, but I suspect that it will do fine in wood and pearl too. I'm a little bit concerned though, since I haven't seen his products on eBay in a little while. I think he may be shutting down production, which would be a darn shame.

Does it cut as cleanly in Brazilian MDF as it does in regular?

Good news....he's not discontinuing them. He's just changing the way they're listed on eBay. Instead of listing the item and saying it make take a couple weeks to manufacture and ship, he's going to make a batch and then list the batch. That way there's no waiting, except to find them on eBay.

Burton,
No, the Brazilian mdf is a bit harder and more oily.
