As I set up my new shop and struggle with different dust collection options, could somebody explain how you collect dust from open machines like a drill press with a sanding disc attached? How about a compound mitre saw? Will a home-made downdraft table made from pegboard be good enough to use my DeWalt variable sander on? Does anybody add any additional ports to things like their bandsaw, table saw, jointer, etc???

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you can buy or make dust collection scoops to get most of the dust from drill press or mitre saw. having an air filter nearby also helps; box fan with furnace filters is a good alternative air filter. i had to add collection to my jointer and unisaw as they are so old it was not an inclusion.

Broom and dust pan. PPE dust mask.

I find that for machines such as the drill press without the facility for dust collection built in, the nozzle of the shop vac Duck taped in a stategic position usually does the trick. I only have an industrial shop vac in my small shop so it has to be moved from machine to machine.

Come to think of it, I've seen the one for the miter saw at my buddy's cabinet shop, just like this one, you'd think one copied the other.

There is just now way to beat the OLF. It's kicked more than one of my problems in the teeth.
