I have a commission for a build that will ship to Sweden. Can anyone offer any recomendations, insights. I am thinking USPS Global Express. The size and weight restrictions are within range. They only offer insurance up to $2499.00. Anyone out there with experience with this? I am in the USA.

Im in stockholm, sweden. Ive used USPS several times, never had a problem. I think Ive used International Flatrate, seemed to be the nicest price. Had a 1930 Martin tenor shipped a few weeks ago, was $65. You will also get a tracking number, which helps, but ive never waited more than a week for someting shipped with that service. UPS, Fedex etc are really expensive. When I was in San fransisco this winter I got quoted $700 insured and $500 uninsured for shipping a guitar beck to sweden(thats about what I paid for trhe plane tickets, roundtrip ).

Im curious, who is your customer, and where in sweden is he?

I just shipped a aguitar to Sweden last month. I used USPS express and had no problem at all. The guitar arrived safely. I have my own insurance as well so that was not a problem. The USPS price beats the heck out of Fedex and UPS.

I used USPS with no issues on a 58 Gretsch recently. I think the price was about $125. Pack it well and there should be no issues.

I am in Alberta Canada. I recently shipped a guitar to Ireland from here via UPS. Insurance was $30 per hundred value. I packed the guitar inside the case a'la Frank Ford, and then the case was boxed up at UPS with more packing peanuts etc. The guitar arrived in great shape. The cost was $627 including packing, insurance and tax. The customer pre paid the shipping to me, although the quote that I got and passed on to the customer was approximately $200 less than the actual cost. Rates are increasing regularly according to the guy at the UPS store.
Upside...once I left the UPS store I was confident the guitar would arrive in the condition it was sent.
Downside...If I do it again, the price of the guitar will be higher to accomodate shipping.

The only way to insure shipping so that there is no hassel or no repair evaluation to deal with is to get a Heritage policy I have never lost any thing with USPS but the other carriers will jerk you around on estimated repair quotes and other BS.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It looks like USPS it is. I ship 10 to 12 guitars per year. I think I will check out the Heritage policy.
