So I'm working on profiling the sides by sanding in the sanding dish. My question is, as you sand the rim, specifically the back, and it begins to assume the profile imparted by the radius dish, in order to fit the back to it, wont it need to be flexed longitudinally somewhat? The reason I ask is that though the braces are radiused, there is nothing to maintain the radius longitudinally. Is this correct?

I can see if the X braces for the top are radiused that they will be able to maintain the neck to heel radius but not having this on the back doesnt allow for that. Am I missing something here?

Yes, it should flex into positon easily.

When you glue the back to the rim, it will creat the radius the long direction automatically. So basically, you are creating the radius one direction when you glue on the braces and the other direction when you glue the back to the rims.

Ive started using a cross brace on lower bouts of my backs.

Some food for thought - An X-braced back, at least where the X-brace is say the lower bout, needs to be flexed less or not at all to fit where ladder braced backs do need to be flexed more. I am not advocating X-braced backs just using this example to illustrate your question.
