I thought it might be helpful for those who have already built electrics to chime in with where we can get quality components. This could be helpful especially for those who may be thinking of taking the plunge as well as for others who can always use an alternate source.

These are some of the sources I have used:

RC Tonewoods...Just as the Zootman has been on the forefront of a large selection of high figured wood for acoustics, he has supplied me with anything I ever needed as far as tops, bodies, neck wood, laminates, bindings, etc. Just ask and he will deliver.

CV Tonewood...Some years ago, Jason sold me some of the nicest maple for electric tops. See him if you really want Maple!

Stuart MacDonald...They have a large selection of hardware and electronics and their customer service is great in answering any questions I've ever had.

Finishing...If you're doing your own finishing, check out Guitar Re-Ranch on the web for supplies, questions and techniques specific to Electrics. Or you can be like me and have Joe White finish your masterpiece in what a lot of pros consider to be the best finish in the business.

I'm hoping others will chime in with other sources as well.

I'm also happy to see this sub-forum added to the OLF. Thanks
Lance, especially since you felt some reluctance.

I've coincidentally been researching for an electric build recently. Here
are two interesting sites I ran across, one a supplier of electric guitar
plans and the other a supplier of template sets.

I've not yet done business with either of these folks.

I've never been a Queen fan, but currently I'm leaning towards building a
"Red Special".

AllParts has great stuff. However they have just about the worst website. You'll also want to set up a dealer account (for which you'll need a tax id), otherwise you'll be paying way too much.

Guitar Parts USA has pickup making supplies and other things.

Guitar Jones has pickup parts and other things too.

Warmoth

WD Music

LMI has some good stuff too.

Don't know if this is totally relevant, but some years ago, when I was helping my son with modding electrics, and amps, we ended up ordering stuff from this guy. His book on modding amps is pretty good, if you ask me, and you didn't. Torres Engineering I'm sure much of his stuff is available elsewhere, now, but 15 years ago, he was a pretty good resource.

I have bought from Torres as well. His understanding of amps is second to none, and his own brand, hand wound pickups are really sweet. Better than most to deal with.

Besides what is already listed -

For electronic supplies, like pots, switches, and caps, I tend to stay away from the guitar "suppliers" and go right to the electronic suppliers. Parts Express, Digikey, etc...You can get the same and better quality stuff without paying the "guitar" markup...It may not seem like much byt saving half on a couple of pots is well worth it to me...

I really like Acme Guitar Works for pickups and electronics. http://www.acmeguitarworks.com/

Another source I've had a lot of luck with is Antique Electronics. http://www.tubesandmore.com/

My guitars have Callaham hardware. http://www.callahamguitars.com/
