Well, this couldn't be more timely to our other discussion, but I learned yesterday of where to get a great deal on a Fadal......

....at the Fadal plant where they're having a public auction on the 23rd. It says they're not closing, but when you've already got a worldwide distribution channel for the machinery and instead of using that you have a public auction, it doesn't look too good. Everything must go apparently; forklifts, cranes, toolholders...

Last word I had was that MAG decided to can everything except the big machines, and that they weren't going to be making those in California anymore. Haas laid off most of their staff not too long ago, as well.

It's a sad day indeed for our domestic machine tool builders.
I recall, back in the late sixties, my first sighting of a Mazak in the Cessna Hydraulics plant and thinking, "a foreign machine tool".
Then probably back somewhere in the eighties (give or take a decade) seeing the first Haas advertisement and thinking "hey that's great, a domestic machine tool builder!".
It's a changing world out there but then what else is new.
