Is it a requisite that we guitar builders have cats in the shop? I started out last winter with one, and somehow (I don`t have the foggiest idea) they seem to multiply. Now I have eleven of those little critters running around the shop. Hey, it`s the sawdust isn`t it? Surprisingly enough, the table saw or router noise doesn`t seem to bother them! The litterbox problem? Open up the door and they`ll find a flower bed somewhere. My wife just loves that!

Mine is a bit too curious and doubles as a reminder to put stuff away. Leave something lying around and turn your back, and it ends up on the floor. That's one reason why I have rubber stable mats for my flooring.

My cat (Smokey) has learned to only visit my shop late at night. She knows that I won't be running any of those loud nasty machines then.

I spent so much effort for ages keeping my cat out of the shop (he was a $$ show-cat), that now that I let him down there he feels he's getting away with something sneaky... he won't settle in and relax at all.

His name is DK (Don's Kitty).

For the record...I won't run power tools with my little buddy down there...he freaks out, and I have a "safety first" mentality.

One time, when I was still in PHX, I was milling up some linings. Long, boring, loud process. My dog had snuck in and helped himself to the shop. As I was into my milling he gave me his best "dog's hell" (you know, nose in the bum). Needless to say he scared the living...well, let's just say he gave me quite a fright. From me jumping, my lining kicked back and the jig went sailing into the wall behind me. Somehow I was spared. Somehow, dang it, the stupid dog was spared too.
But now the thought of pets in a shop makes me a bit nervous.

I never let any of the animals in the shop, they have no concept of what a running saw blade can do much less a router and can get under your feet. Cats being how they are like to try and sneak in, so I've invented the horrible 'Air Hose Snake'. When a cat makes it out the shop the snake chases them with a horrible hissing noise that basically terrifies them, the last one snuck out there and after about 2 minutes of chasing literally threw himself through the door to get away.

It may sound cruel but they have had NO desire to back in the shop which is for the better, I would rather have them terrified of the shop than have one of them injured out there...

Don, For some reason, your kitty reminds me of Garfield. He is a cute critter though.

Can't say that I like cats realy so I'm sure none would venture near my shop.

I hope none of you with pets in the shop have ever left a bottle of CA open overnight. That could be a real mess.

He's a Scottish Fold, a breed of cats where the ears are lopped over like some dogs. He sort of does look a little like Garfield, eh? Never thought of that.

Hey...they're good for door stops and, in a pinch, you can pull one through your vacuum system piping to clean out the extraneous sawdust. Sorta like a giant pipe cleaner

PS: I'm allergic to them so they never see the light of day around our house.

Suppose kitty would land on his feet after passing thru the cyclone?

Nelson, that would depend on whether or not the impeller was before or after the cyclone....

can't believe I said that.

No cats around here. Coyotes seem to get em faster than they can multiply. We have a couple fierce guarddogs to chase away the intruders though They never seem to be more than 10 feet from one of us through the day.

I guess the little guy almost looks like a cat Jason38604.1910532407

Jason--Do they complain when you ask them to get off the couch so you can take a nap?

I'm probably sleeping on the couch directly in front of that one they are on
