i've seen motorized arrangements, both vertical and horizontal, on a number of builders web sites. i think there is one in the tools and jig section of the forum.

i've never been game to try it, particularly since it is not a great time consumer to turn the dish by hand and if one does lose concentration on the motorized version it could be a big time consumer.

the dowel moves back and forth but not left and right. You just need it to
go with the angle on the back.

The bolts fit into holes on my molds and the double nuts serve as height
adjustment.

I don't bowl sand the sides alone. The back of the guitar sides is pre
profiled so all I do is install lining and then bowls sand. Just a few
minutes work.

The top I raise the lining about .060-.090 at the waist and then feather it
back down at the points of the bouts. That is roughly what the arch on
the top is. it only takes a few minutes sanding on that too and it is all
ready for notching and gluing.
