regarding the water collected from demumidifiers: as mentioned it will have various contaminants including shop dusts in it. those dusts in combination with the water and heat can stain light coloured woods such as maple and cherry.

the commercial distilled stuff is cheap, you are only going to be using an ounce or to per side... why take an entirely unnecessary risk?

I see the point Michael, I was thinking I could use the stuff from the dehumidifier in my little store room, which is shut off from the dust generation part of the workshop.

My thought was not really a money saving excercise, just trying to utilise a by product. Which without dust contamination is potentially the equal of commercially distilled water.
