Great videos, Chris! You've inspired some great ideas for inlays. Looking forward to your next set of videos.

On your miter box , try using an exacto razor saw. I found this to make better cuts than with the jewelers saw. I like the vids keepem coming.

John,
If you look close in part 3 there's a red plastic miter box sitting on the table made by Zona. I just got it in the mail that Saturday and I also got a 52 TPI .008" kerf razor saw .The pieces were already cut. I tried the 32 TPI that came with the miter box on a sample piece. It worked but I think the 52tpi will be better. The miter box is a bit too high for the shell but the saw fits my miter . I was wondering how the razor blade would hold up cutting the shell. I have some more gold MOP for the little tip pieces to cut for the opposite color stars so I'll give it a go with the razor saw. The one thing with the 3/O blades is they don't leave too bad of a burr as the larger blades left. So that will be cool if the razor works because the jewelers blade did start to where the side slot wall in the far slot. But not too bad for about 300 cuts. :)

I used mine for a while, They are not that expensive but the rigid blade gives a finer cut. The jewelers saw is great but the razor back saw will make fast work of cutting in this manner.

I just finished cutting some with the 52 TPI razor saw. Once I started to apply a little bit pressure down on the pull stroke it cut pretty fast. A lot faster then the Jewelers saw. That will be a time saver. Too bad I didn't order the saw earlier.

Hi Chris,
while not all of your tutorials are relevant for me (e.g., I like wood rosettes more than shell rosettes), I really enjoy watching them, and I learn quite a bit (and most of them ARE relevant too :D ).
So here's a big thanks from me for making the effort to produce the tutorials and sharing them with everyone here.
cheers, Christian

Thanks Christian. I really hope that some of the videos help to give people some ideas that they can use else where. It's like I watch all the woodworking shows on PBS and sometimes I pick up ideas there. I get alot of ideas and learn by watching and observing so I guess that's why I like the video format. Next best thing to being there. Well at least I think so.

Thank once again for some great videos.

Each one I see it inspires me. After I watched the one on pearl purfling I did one on my very next build!

Hey Chris,

Thanks so much for doing the video. I have been toying with the idea of doing some MOP work on my guitars. Your video has stimulated my thought processes and I may try some soon.

A couple of questions:
Do you use thick, medium or thin CA for gluing the pieces together?
Also, is the 52 tpi razor saw you discussed made by the same people who do the Zona saw?

Thanks,
Max

I use thin CA and the saw I got was made by Zona

If you order a saw from these guys please PM me before you do.
