Hi Frank,

I have eastern (hard maple) bridge plates. They are about 1/8 x 1 7/8 by whatever length you want.

Boy I hope Mario doesn't see this thread...
You can usually get a bridgeplate out of the cutoffs of the waist area of the back.

Don't let Mayes see this thread or he will cringe. I think he gets his Uke material from the waist [waste]. I have also got guite a supply of Osage bridge plate stock too.Tim McKnight38616.8876736111

I'm so very rarely right that I feel obligated to stand up for this one.

waist (wst)
n.

   1. The part of the human trunk between the bottom of the rib cage and the pelvis.
   2. The middle section or part of an object, especially when narrower than the rest.

waste
v. wast·ed, wast·ing, wastes
v. tr.

   1. To use, consume, spend, or expend thoughtlessly or carelessly.
   2. To cause to lose energy, strength, or vigor; exhaust, tire, or enfeeble: Disease wasted his body.
   3. To fail to take advantage of or use for profit; lose: waste an opportunity.
   4.
        1. To destroy completely.
        2. Slang. To kill; murder.

Paul: it's the noun form we're using when we say the 'waste from the back' or 'waste material'. Not the 'waste area', which is dubious. 'Wasted area' is fine, I guess. Although given how much scrap in various tiny sizes I've got kicking around, and how often I end up using bits of it, I don't know if any of it's really wasted ;-)

Waste:

n.

   1. The act or an instance of wasting or the condition of being wasted: a waste of talent; gone to waste.

Talking about, in context, the wood 'gone to waste' after profiling the plate(s).Mattia Valente38617.2005787037

I was talking about the waist (as in the slim area between the bouts) because that's the area the renders the most unused material (or waste if you will).
Who came up with this language anyway?

I used African blackwood for bridgeplates on my last guitars. Stiff, resonant, and don't think they will wear out anytime soon. I bought a couple of tuning blanks at a woodworker's show that should provide me with plenty of bridgplates.

Actually if you think about it, it's both waist and waste (or re-cycled that is)

Sweet John, now that's recycling at it's best.
Nice color change on the rosewood uke.
