Hi All,

Can you please explain to me the reasoning behind installing frets 14 & higher after the fretboad/neck are affixed?

for me its very simple - I'm able to level my fretboard (After) its attached to the body - I have NEVER had luck trying to get the neck to line up perfectly with the top of the body, so there is always a little bit of leveling to do. That and the fact that it is SO SO easy to fret after word, I see no point in doing it ahead of time -

so you can true up the fingerboard and make sure it is dead flat all the way up the board after it is attached.

This Gentlemen is WHY I have a %100 detachable neck, I do all this with the neck removed and then just bolt it on when I'm ready

I'm trying to convince Woolson that he should convert over, it would save him some of the problems with his roadtrip guitar....

you guys that can get the fretboard dead on then bolt it up make me invious. I always find I need a tweek to get it right. My first I freted through the 14 prior to setting the neck. When I fret leveled I had too much trouble. From then on I set the neck, finished the guitar and neck, installed the bridge, mounted the neck, leveled the fretboard then installed the frets. I have had a lot less issues to deal with since I started doing it this way. and a lot less fret recrowning.

I haven't re-crowned a fret in 35+ guitars since using this method. Once the FB is dead flat the only variation left is in the fret itself (and of course the guy swinging the hammer).

I fret the finger board before attaching it to the neck and have only once had to level the frets after. That was on a guitar that had been out for two months and exposed to some real extreams in Humidity and even then it didn't ned much.

Tim, thats pretty amazing. How low are you able to get your action without buzzing? 3/32" or 1/8" over the twelfth fret?

if you can't get your action lower than 3/32" or 1/8" without buzzing you haven't finished fretting yet.

I have never been able to figure out why people have to re crown so often. Do a good job fretting and you shouldn't need to touch them.
