Here are a few pics of the color I've sprayed. Please give me your opinions!

Thanks...

The color is a combination of 2 coats of finish with Honey-Amber Trans-Tint, and 3 coats finish with Vintage Maple Trans-Tint.

Don: The color looks good to me but that neck sure looks a LOT chunky

Don,
I think that's really pretty. Looks old already.
But man! That's one serious sound hole.

Isn't this your "Lowe's Special"?

Steve

Shows off the wood very nicely Don. Personally I prefer that to a sunburst.

Thanks all...

Tim, yes, it's a bit clunky, but I can get my hands around it.

Steve, yes this is my "Lowe's Special".

Arnt, yes I'm on a sabbatical from building in a professional sense. I'm trying to find the fun in it again, and this is something for me personally, so it's been fun.

I know almost nothing about resos but I thought they were the same as Dobros and I thought Dobros used steels so why do you need to get your hands around neck?

Bob,
Let me explain about my strange sense of humour....
It's often dry, often subtle, and often not very good.

I said "hands" as in plural. Meaning yes, it's a huge neck, because it's a squareneck, which Tim knew when he joked with me about the neck size. I responded in a more subtle way. I'm the first to admit it wasn't very funny.

Hi Don,
very warm. I like it. I just wish you could find Lowe's lumber with a little
more flame and curl! You must really have the spraying technique for
KTM-9 down pretty good now, because I'll bet you haven't even begun to
rub this out yet and already it looks fantastic. I've always sprayed straight
from the can, but do you thin it with a little alcohol? I'm starting to spray
Sat. morning and thought I'd try the alcohol to get it to flow out a little bit
better. Yes, No?

Hi Craig,

Yes, the wood is a bit weak in figure, but I'll live with it.
I don't thin KTM-9 at all. I strain it with one of those reuseable brass coffee filters when pouring it into the gun though. This particular instrument seems to be going very smoothly for the most part, except for a couple runs. But I don't much care, so perhaps that's why things are going well! Call me if you want...

Don

Don,I think it looks very good. I like this finish better than any sunburst. Nice job.

Looks really good Don. I agree that it almost has an antique look to it. You suppose BobC has really been getting his zoot at Lowe's?

Bob (smartly) won't tell us where he gets his zoot...he knows that those of us who suffer from W.A.S. will all drive hours and hours to beat him to it!

Darn it Bob! I've been to 3 different Lowes in my area today, and not ONE of them has an Exotic Wood department. If I didn't know better, I would say you sent me on a wild goose chase...

Well, I was level-sanding the finish this morning when I accidently sanded through a couple spots. So I mixed up some more finish, but changed the color slightly and sprayed. Well, I was too aggressive and tried to spray the whole guitar in one shot. It seemed to work fine and I hung it up. Unfortunately, the new darker color decided to run all over the place. I tried to pull off some of the runs carefully, but I smeered it. So I removed the wet stuff and waited until it dried and level sanded again. I resprayed, and realized how much I like the color better then before. I got it very similar to that "pumpkin" color on old Strat necks. Perfect!

Don I don't understand that. I found this Maylasian Black & White Ebony at Lowes just yesterday.

So let's see the new color. The first one matched the table just perfect.

A square neck should be played with a bar or slide..
so chunky neck should not mattere much..I think the neck looks fine for a square neck. And the finish is sweet.Should be a beaut.

Here are a few photos of the body and neck with their final coats of finish. It also sports the new darker, more pumpkin-like color.

Thanks for lookin' !
