Hey
Has anyone tried Seymour Duncans STK-P1? If so how do you like them?
Im planning on using them on a les paul type build and trying to figure out how deep the route needs to be, anyone know?
Im new to electrics so I don't know much about pickups and pickup cavities but here's the dimensions chart:

I have heard 3/4 is standard but heres what the Seymour Duncan website says about them:

"For use in any P-90 guitar. However, if your pickup cavity is less than 1.25 inches (32 mm) deep in the neck position or .75 inches (19 mm) in the bridge position, guitar modification may be necessary."

Which confuses me because the height of the whole pickup is just over an inch and the top of the pickup is gonna be around fingerboard height (1/4ish above the top of the guitar)?
I guess Ill just have to see what it's like when i get the things.

I have used those pickups in a couple of guitars, I really like them. They are definitely hum canceling, and they do sound great. I would certainly recommend them.

Did you have to rout a deeper pocket for them or is 3/4" enough?

The first guitar I used one in was a Frankenstein guitar that I made from a pawnshop Ibanez, and I did have to deepen the pocket in order to fit the pickup. I would definitely take the dimensions given by SD seriously, but I do not have and measurements of the route on my guitar. All I can say is that the standard route that was done in the factory by Ibanez was insufficient. The main difference with these pickups is that there are two coils stacked, with the magnets in between the stacks, and there is a metal plate on the bottom of the pickup. There are a few screws protruding from the bottom of the plate, so there has to be some space in between the wood and the metal plate (not to mention space for a spring if you are mounting them in the traditional way).

They are definitely taller than typical p90's and taller than any other pickup I have used, not to mention heavy. But I think they sound a lot like traditional p90's yet are perfectly quiet. I also like the fact that they have four wires so that each pickup can be wired in a couple of different ways.

I built a Tele style few years back ,for the guitar player for The Pat Green Band (Brett Danaher). I used the Duncan P90 stacks, wired the coils in parallel because the series arrangement was so thick,muddy and loud that it was unusable for my client.
He played it most nights until it was stolen right off the stage.

I routed the pickups 1" deep and had no problems. Fretboard to body face relationship was like a stock Tele.

I received my pickups in the mail but haven't routed for them yet
I was thinking of doing series/parallel wiring with push/pull pots (because i can) and its not adding any more switches or knobs... We'll see.
