So I've started gluing the binding on my first guitar and I'm running into a problem. I'm using ivoroid and 2 pieces of plastic purfling and using the tape in place and then flood with CA method. I tried just regular CA and when I started scraping everything flush, I noticed that the binding and outside piece of purfling where not glued securely in a lot of places. The CA did seem to pool in a lot of places, so I scraped everything flush and tried the water thin superglue this time, but I'm still getting the same thing. I thought this water thin super glue could penetrate even the tightest joints. What am I doing wrong here?

If it isn't sticking well, my guess is everything is not tight when you taped it in place. Some tape slips a little when the CA hits it too.

If it isn't too crusty you might try to re-tape everything and see if you can get it very tight. Then use the water thin glue VERY sparingly. It really does a good job wicking in.

    I admit I stopped using CA. The CA seems to stain the spruce. Duco is reliable and allows some working time. I know some here will swear by the CA method and if it works for you keep using it.
      Some binding materials are more receptive to CA than others. Some of the wood fiber products don't glue well with CA.
     Find a method that works for you . If you use duco you will lay a bead in the channel then push it in and down , Then tape into postion and let set about 4 hrs. I usually let the binding set overnight.

Well, so far it's not working for me. Everything seemed very tight. It just doesn't want to wick in. It just pools up at the top.

I would then move to an acetone based glue, such as Duco or Weldon.
