I haven't posted to the MIMF in ages. Sick of the politics. But from time to time I'll lurk and see what people are up to. this morning I saw a post about "What kind of classical should I buy". I'm always curious as to that type of advice so I read on. One person stated that the price would make a big difference so he asked what the person's price point was. Deb chimed in right away with "No prices please as to our policy". Pretty much made that whole thread useless right there.
Lance, thanks for being who you are and doing what you do. Pwoolson38636.3901041667

No rant from me. Just another "attaboy" for Lance and the way he runs things.

Folks, not piling on here but since that is the area I take care of over there, I just wanted to explain why things happened that way. The person who started that dicussion was a newbie, and you can tell by the way he posted with such poor spelling and so on that he wouldn't have a grasp of the MIMF forum's policy. General prices would have been fine, (say, "I want a guitar under 500 dollars") but specific prices are not. Since the person who responded asked about prices, and Deb seeing that reminded the poster not to post prices. That's all, no big deal. She didn't want to have to edit anything, so she posted a reminder.

Before I ask anything, please understand that I have no idea where or what MIMF is and have never visited the forum.

We are all pretty well aware of prices of different builders and manufacturers of guitars in both the the steel string and classic genres and are also very aware of the fact that a $500.00 guitar is quite a bit different from a $1500.00 guitar or from a $5000.00 guitar.

With that said, I need to ask a simple and reasonable question.

Why in the world is it not acceptable to ask for a general price range for a person who is looking for a guitar in order to offer them some obviously needed and innocently solicited guidance on some opinions of what brands or builders may be able to put the right guitars into his hands while still meeting his budget?

That is a disservive to both builders and your forum members in my opinion. In light of this policy, I would hope that you would have a consistent consideration of never allowing a good or bad word to be said of any guitar from any builder or production house that might influence anyone to purchase one over another.

Secondly, I though it was funny that you would address a person's spelling ability as a reference point for their level of experience in participating at your forum.

Are there rules regarding typos and the required use of a spellcheck before posting? Do your members improve in their spelling abilities as they spend more time posting at the MIMF? I'm really just curious as to what that could have possibly had to do with anything of importance in the poor guy's post. Hopefully, he's not a lurker here at the OLF and reads your comments. That could embarrassing for both of you.

I'm constantly learning about internet ediquette and political correctness in specific venues and environments and this single thread was a set of lessons rolled into one.

Please let me knwo the URL of the MIMF so I can pop in for a visit now and then. I'll be sure to put on my egg walking shoes and fire up the spellcheck if I decide to participate, though.

I'll look forward to hearing your replies.

Thanks,
Kevin Gallagher/Omega Guitars

JMO Lance, to save the greif put an end to it now. I think many of us have deep convictions on this issue that have already been presented. no need for more. None of our intents here is to bad mouth any other org. but many feel they have been wronged in their eyes and it will be hard to keep cool heads. my 2cents
