I think you should pull my name off that list, with our relocation to Idaho I've not had time to do anything and I think in the confusion John Hall will be doing everything that I would have done. I'll be offline for a minimum of two months while we relocate...

Cheers

OK, let's get the ball rolling, shall we?

We're talking about it, but to date I don't think we've done anything on it right?

So let's start by working out a plan of attack.

1. Location of materials.
Who has the back & sides?
Who has the top?
Who has the rosette materials?
etc. etc.

2. Schedule. If nobody has set a schedule for this project, then I volunteer to draw up a matrix in Excel and plug everything in there, and will also hound folks to start their part of the project.

3. I forget...what body style are we building? What appointments? Let's list it all fresh here.

Lance or Brock... can you you move these posts into a new Sticky Topic titled "Charity Guitar" so we can get this project rolling? Or please start one fresh.

Same thing with the OLF guitar folks....all this has taken long enough... I'm motivated, so hopefully all of us involved can stir up some motivation within and put the vehicle back in "drive".

Thanks...

p.s. I hope I haven't annoyed anyone or pushed buttons on this, but sometimes it seems it's just time to stop talking and get moving.

Don as project coordinator. Thanks for the volunteer Don. I believe it was to be a OLF SJ I may be mistaken.

For your schedule records; Michael Payne: French polish finish and label.

So here's the deal...if anyone has any objections, or is offended by my wanting to start scheduling the work, and keeping track of this project, please say so. I know others have been involved more than I from the beginning, but I stuck out my neck here willingly, so chop if I'm stepping on your toes. Please. You can PM me or post here. I'm willing to usurp the reigns on it if others don't object. ONLY if nobody will be offended.
It's all about the charity, not me. But I suspect that with better organization, we can make this thing happen sooner rather than later.

Don

I say go for it Don. I'm just waiting for some direction to start the neck. Actually if no one minds, I have a neck halfway there. It of course is mahogany with a EIR centerstrip and two maple laminates. I'll go ahead and set it up for a 25.5" scale but I need to know what kind of neck joint it needs and the dimensions of that joint as well as which end the truss rod needs to be adjusted from. Also do we have a headstock overlay?

I plan on buying the truss rod, and sending it to the designated party. I'm just waiting to get an address.

Has anyone designed the shape of the headstock?

Craig Lavin will be doing the inlay on it correct?

Let's list all the players here again if we can be a bit redundant, and I'll get that Excel matrix started.

John, the neck sounds good to me unless someone else had other ideas? I say let's give it 24 hours for people to speak up on the neck design issues, then get going. Are you doing the fretboard and binding on the neck as well?

Lance, are there a couple plans that we can get and mark up with the details to send around to the folks doing the body and neck work?

The Matrix has started...once done, I will give to Lance and Brock to put on this site for everyone to download so we can all stay "on schedule".

Ive spoke with Paul Davis reguarding the neck joint and we agreed that a flat butt joint would be the simplist to do from builder to builder. I also have the sides and blocks.

I believe Tim McKnight originally signed on to manage this project, is that right Tim?

If so, I'm your right hand man on this then. I'll be sending you the schedule as soon as it's done, and we can put it out for people to let us know if they can make it by the suggested deadline.

Lance, please start assembling the rim at your next convenience. There's no reason to start that and the back.

Paul Woolson, are we inlaying anything in the back center seam area? If not, you're cleared to get started.

Let's all take the next day or two to finalize all the details, and then get the ball rolling.

Who has the top? Is the rosette in?

John How, please PM Jerry Hossom with your address so he can chip the trussrod there, if you haven't already.

Thanks.

If anyone is supplying parts, please start shipping them to the person who will be needing them.

Zootman, you may as well ship those bindings & purflings to me so I can be ready. I've got a nice storage container for them.
You continue to be "The Man".Don Williams38644.542650463

Sorry for the blitz of posts guys, but the boss is away at work this week, and I have time to think...

John Mayes,
Are you doing the fretboard markers? How about inlay on the FB? Are we going with dots or something else?
Let's nail this down so you can get it done and out to John How to have so he can begin carving the neck.
Thanks man...

OK, I just sent a PM to Jerry and I'll start the neck. Just to be clear before I make any cuts we are going with a butt joint. If this is the case then I would really like to have the assembled body present to make the fit. I have a jig that uses the body as a sanding cawl to shape the neck to an exact fit while applying the correct neck angle as well.

John there seems to be a hitch.... I was informed that Paul Davis was also scheduled to do the neck??? Can we all go back into the archives to find out what is happening there. I'm trying to avoid anyone getting left out or hurt/offended by the project.

I may be in outerspace here - but I thought Paul Davis was doing the neck?

Guys, Davis had to retire from this project due to his move. It's in a post up further.
Don, Michael P and I pretty much decided that there would be NO CENTER SEAM due the the fact that we weren't totally sold on a binding/purfling scheme yet.
When the rims are done they will come to me as will the top. I'll glue it all up into a box and send it on (To Don? ) for binding.

Thanks for the info Paul. Looks like you have your hands full on this. But that just makes me confidant as to how it will turn out!

I'll just hang out for a while since fitting the neck will require possesion of the body and mayhaps Paul will have his shop built as well as a few new guitars by then.

I recieved the truss rod that Jerry Hossum bought and had shipped to my shop. Now all I need to get started is a plan. Is there a headstock design?, I'd like to confirm that the scale is 25.5" and 14 frets to the neck joint. Also I'd like to confirm the attachment neck method and joint design. Also it would really be nice to have the fret board before I get too far into this thing.

Thanks, standing by for now.
John How

John - the neck is going to be a butt joint. No M&T or Dovetail - just a stright Butt, ala the old Taylor joint.
