Nice looking guitar...at least it would be except for all those grain imperfections in that wood. Yep, it's such a shame. I have many sets of that stuff sitting on my shelves waiting to use them once my good wood is all gone. A darned shame. I suppose eventually someone might want some of that on a guitar. Miracles happen.   Unfortunately I have so many of these ugly sets, 20 or 25 of them. Oh well. I guess somebody has to use it.Don W38380.6809259259

thanks. The inlay is mother of pearl and it is hebrew for "Messiah".

What is it bound with
What are you doing in that second picture?

Binding is brazilian rosewood (here is a better shot of that)

And I'm filming the Next set of DVD's I've been making on building guitars. In the pic I'm gluing on a bridge plate.

That is a truly beautiful guitar. I really LOVE that wood, good luck on your DVD making.

And, a courageous way to finish off the heel of the neck. I mean that by stopping it short of the binding, you have to make a perfect joint there in the binding---whereas most of us just hide it with the heel.

He he I normally hide it too... But I knew this neck I made was going to be close to covering it or not so I just made it not cover it and made sure the joint was good. But normally I wimp out too and cover it with the heel. This was actualy covering up a mistake so to speak..

John--I always end my binding job at the heel area...and start at the butt. Is that your normal procedure? I strive for a perfect joint at the heel zone, because it will be seen as one looks at the back. It's just that there is a slight comfort knowing the heel will be over the bulk of the joint.Steve Kinnaird38381.9663194444

Yes exactly my process. I start at the endgraft and work to the heel. The back, of course, will be seen and that is always a important joint, but as you say the heel normally covers the side purfling under itself so you can be less than perfect there normally... I just made the heel to short on this one and had to make it dead on. Normally it is more like this :

Thanks. The center wood is Mahogany. Just Mahogany/rosewood/mahogany/rosewood/mahogany
