Flooding the interior with thin CA would probably add a fair amount of strength.

Yeah...but you know what would happen?

In order for the CA to strengthen the hole it has to flow into the pores. But I already found that even fairly viscous epoxy flows into the pores.....and then seeps through the whole peg. Look close at the tan knobs and you can see how that looks. I fixed it by putting some shellac in a syringe and filling the hole, waiting about 5 seconds, and then throwing it out. Not enough time to allow it to seep through but enough time to seal the cavity prior to pouring in the epoxy.

You COULD pour in the CA and then throw it out quickly but those hole are machined to fit precisely to the peg. I wonder if that would throw off the fit? I'll have to try that with one of these sets.

Or accelerate the outside first, let it soak in a bit and flash off, then flood and blow out the CA. The only problem I see is that the CA will only strengthen the end grain and leave the edge grain soft. So only half a solution.
