[QUOTE=Skip Beach] Hey Terry,

Very nice work. Lovely shape & well executed details. Nice finish too!

How do you like the K&K Pure Western mini pickup system? I'm considering getting the same for my current slope dred project. I am building this one for a friend & don't want to spend his $$ unwisely.

Hi Skip,

THe K&K p/up works well. I compared it to my Taylor w/a Fishman under saddle (with pre-amp). The K&K didn't have quite the output. But the K&K saonded like the guitar only louder. I sound like a rep masquerading as an unsolicited, unbiased opinion huh? I played through a GK amp w/5" spkrs. not the best test. I play it in a concert tonight. I use in ear monitors, but I can get a sound check through the house before hand. I'll post later, or PM you.

It is a good sound, good value. If I were in my live band setting and using FLOOR WEDGES, I wouldn't think it would hold up over 75-80dB before feedback, which is low frequency, and can be EQ'd out. Or just rest your forearm on the top, right behind the bridge

Terry,

That's exactly what I was hoping to hear you say ... "sounds just like the guitar only louder."
It seems there is no better test for a pickup than the critical ear. And no, you don't sound biased - only excited & pleased, which is a good thing. Hopefully the feedback issues you anticipate will not be so severe.

In my instance the client wants the pickup installed just in case he wants to use it - he doesn't play in public much - yet.

Thanks for your thoughtful response and comments,

Skip

Great work Terry!! Lovely shape, lovely wood, lovely work! I too like the K & K's and recently also became a dealer. I just installed the first into a customer's guitar last week. We put in the Trinty Western, 3 pad and small microphone. The mic actually smooths the sound out a lot taking some of the underbridge 'edge' off. I was delited with the sound as was the customer who is a local performing musician and recording artist. I have another one to go into the current guitar I am building. The external pre-amp with enclosed EQ is also great, less weight on the guitar and, once the EQ is set, it can't be easily tampered with.

Keep up the Great work Terry!

Shane

First of all, to Terry: That is a stunner! Really beautiful workmanship.

Also, now that you have discovered Granadillo, the secret's out. It smells like Rosewood when you cut it. It *pings* like Rosewood when you tap it. It takes a finish like a dream (not too oily, not large-pored.) It has the "right stuff" when it comes to stability: very low volumetric shrinkage, very low radial and tangential shrinkage (and the radial to tangential ratio is close.) It sometimes displays curl or beeswing, but, even the "plain" stuff is beautiful.

Did I hear Bob say he has some?

-Dennis

Bob promised it all to me!

Thanks Dennis, I didn't know about the stability issue. I bought a bunch of wood cheap, and this was one of them! I showed it off tonight at it's debut, and I think it may have sold itself!

I have another (sister) set that I will build another with, but with a few variables-shorter scale, maybe different top wood. Wish I'd bought one of those tops from Don at ASIA
