Where can I find templates/patterns in .dxf format for use in inlays? We've got a new sign-making toy at work I'm dying to try out that can import .dxf files. Kinda like a Mini-CNC, I'm hoping? We'll see!

Hi Wes!!!
Go to www.luthiersupply.com
He not only sells inlay materials finished but there is a button where you can print out the patterns.
Good luck!

Thanks, Walter. I found that one, but is there any way to convert them or scan them in to .dxf? Or is there a site to download from?

Walter,
what format are the luthiersupply.com patterns saved in? If they are in
almost any vector-based format they can be exported out of Adobe
Illustrator to .dxf format. If you don't have Illustrator I can convert them
for you.

I forgot -- the patterns on Andy DePaule's site are low resolution jpeg
files which will do you no good. He will send you high res files if you
request them. He discovered he was being ripped off by competitors
when he had the high res images available for download. Even his high
res patterns are still jpeg files (which are rasterized, pixel-based images),
so you need to use them as templates and redraw them in something like
Illustrator. Any CAD program needs vector-based files because it uses the
paths and points created in the vector file to draw shapes.
